International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers: Respect Bodies, Smash Stigma, End Violence

December 17th isn’t just another day—it’s a rally cry. The International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers calls on all of us to wake up, show up, and speak up. It’s a day to honour lives stolen by violence, amplify voices that refuse to be silenced, and burn down the systems that thrive on stigma and oppression.

At Pro-Choice YQL, we get it: sex work is work. Period. We’re here to support with zero-judgment service navigation—whether that’s STBBI testing, abortion care, or birth control. We make damn sure the providers we connect you with offer stigma-free, compassionate care because bodily autonomy is non-negotiable. Everyone deserves care, respect, and freedom from harm.

Why This Day Hits Hard

Let’s talk about it—sex workers are disproportionately targeted by violence. Whether it’s from partners, clients, cops, or laws that claim to “protect” but only make things worse, sex workers are often left to navigate unsafe conditions alone. Criminalization and stigma don’t save lives; they endanger them. This day started in 2003 with the Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) to honor the victims of the Green River Killer, and it’s been a global call to arms ever since: violence against sex workers must end.

Pro-Choice YQL: Zero Judgment, Full Support

Here’s what we do do: we fight stigma where it lives. Pro-Choice YQL offers:

  • Service navigation without judgment: Need STI testing? Abortion access? Birth control? We’ve got you.

  • Stigma-free connections: We vet every provider to make sure you’re met with care, not side-eyes.

  • A commitment to autonomy: Your body, your choice, your life. End of story.

We’re here to make sure people get the support they deserve, no matter who they are or what they do for work.

We Deserve Better

Violence against sex workers isn’t just their issue—it’s everyone’s issue. It’s about freedom, respect, and justice for all bodies, all choices, all people. Pro-Choice YQL is proud to stand in solidarity, and we’ll keep showing up until stigma is dead and autonomy is alive and thriving.
